Paddington flats evacuated after 19th floor fire

About 150 people were evacuated from a block of flats in central London after a fire broke out on the 19th floor.

Residents at the block on Harrow Road in Paddington were alerted to the fire at 02:30 GMT and 35 firefighters were called to the scene.

The flat where the fire originated was badly damaged and a female resident was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, London Fire Brigade said.

It added that residents had been temporarily relocated while the fire was dealt with, before being allowed back into the building.
