Teesside UK Wood Recycling fire \’escalates\’

A fire at a wood recycling plant on Teesside has escalated due to extremely high winds, the firm has said.

The blaze began on Monday in a small stack of wood at the UK Wood Recycling plant at the Wilton site near Redcar.

Cleveland Fire Brigade said high winds had caused the fire to take hold and it would not be put out for several days.

Residents should be reassured everything is being done to contain the fire, a company spokesman said.

A spokesman for Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: \”The winds are presenting us with difficulties at the moment but we have sufficient resources and are working closely with SembCorp Utilities [the site owners] to control the fire.

\”We expect to be here for a further two to three days.\”
