Residents flee flats after blaze in Stewarton cafe

Residents in an East Ayrshire town fled from their flats after a fire broke out in a ground-floor cafe.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in Avenue Square, Stewarton, in the early hours of Monday morning.

They checked flats on the above two floors and extinguished the blaze. No-one was injured during the incident.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said local residents had been alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and had quickly moved out of the building.
