Fire damages Townhouse restaurant in Ipswich

A fire has damaged a restaurant in the centre of Ipswich.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said it received \”multiple calls\” to the blaze, which started at about 09:45 GMT in the Townhouse, Orwell Place.

Group commander Dave Pederson said the fire was thought to have started in the kitchen area of the restaurant.

\”We were faced with a very difficult fire that had spread from the kitchen on the ground floor to the first floor and roof space,\” he said.

Mr Pederson said the owners of the restaurant were inside the building when the fire started.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
