Arson attack at Quinn Glass Factory in Derrylin

There has been another arson attack at a business in County Fermanagh formerly owned by ex-billionaire Séan Quinn.

Firefighters were called to Quinns Glass Factory on Ballyconnell Road, Derrylin, at 22:05 GMT on Wednesday after a generator was set alight.

No-one was hurt and police have said they are treating the fire as arson.

There have been a series of attacks on properties formerly owned by the Quinn family, whose wide range of businesses collapsed in 2011.

In February, there was a petrol bomb attack close to the headquarters of the former Quinn Group in Fermanagh, while in January a bus was set on fire at the entrance to three of its businesses in Rakeelan, Ballyconnell, in County Cavan.

In December, a fuel tanker was set on fire after being driven into the former headquarters in Fermanagh.

The attacks have been condemned by Mr Quinn, the bankrupt Fermanagh businessman who founded the group.

A police spokesman said officers believed that someone had gained entry to the premises during Wednesday’s attack via the rear of the premises on Ballyconnell Road.

One fire appliance was sent to deal with the blaze.

Mr Quinn was once the richest person in Ireland and the 12th richest in the UK.

He filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
