Powder Extinguishers In the London Area

Powder fire extinguishers are available in 2kg, 4kg, 6kg and 9kg options and are suitable for use on fires involving Class A, B, C, D and electrical fires.

These extinguishers are multipurpose extinguishers with variants that allow them to be effective on fires involving flammable metals. They are not suitable for fires involving fat (cooking oils).

These extinguishers are ideal for multi-risk environments and are effective in developing a “fast knock down” of a fire.  They are effective against “running fires” and this must be considered when designing a portable fire extinguisher system. They are not suitable for use in confined spaces as the discharge of the medium can cause reduction of visibility and may impair breathing.  For this reason powder fire extinguishers should generally not be specified for use indoors unless mitigated by a health and safety risk assessment.

Maintenance procedures: The ‘Reform Order’ requires that all fire safety equipment be kept in a condition that is fit for purpose and thus requires that all fire safety equipment including fire extinguishers be maintained. It is required in accordance with BS 5306-3:2009 that powder fire extinguishers undergo a basic service with intervals no longer than 12 months and an extended service every five years.

Fire Safety Training London
Joanne McCann Emma Waugh Joint Practice Managers

The Premises Manager Fire Training course run by Griffin Fire was recommended to us by our Health and Safety consultant last year and far exceeded our expectations.

Phillip Stones Senior IAG Adviser

Griffin Fire has been very helpful to Action Acton over the last five years: they have been the favoured provider of fire training for all our Fire Wardens which in turn has been cascaded down to all staff and volunteers.

Niall Quigley Facilities Manager

I have been working with Griffin for a few years now and find them to be a very good all round company to work with. I have had a lot of experience with various sub-contractors and in my personal opinion Griffin are one of the best we have taken on.

Sue Surridge Practice Manager

In 2012 we enlisted the services of Griffin who carried out a third party accredited fire risk assessment on the practice. This was a most comprehensive and intense assessment which highlighted the necessary action the practice should take to comply with all Fire Safety Regulations.

Bob Perry Grad IOSH Risk Manager

Griffin Fire have provided fire services to Workspace Group for over 20 years and now look after 70 of our sites. Their work is always to the highest standard from the design stage through to commissioning and subsequent maintenance.
