Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers In the London Area
Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are available in 2kg, and 5kg options and can be used to put out fires involving flammable liquids (e.g. oil, petrol, alcohol) and electrical fires, and are suitable for ‘Class B’ fires and fires involving electricity.
These extinguishers are not suitable for fires involving carbon based materials, flammable metals, fat (cooking oils) and flammable gas.
These extinguishers are generally found alongside water fire extinguishers in offices but can also be used in server rooms, lift motor rooms etc.
Maintenance procedures: The ‘Reform Order’ requires that all fire safety equipment be kept in a condition that is fit for purpose and thus requires that all fire safety equipment including fire extinguishers be regularly maintained. It is required in accordance with BS 5306-3:2009 that carbon dioxide fire extinguishers undergo a basic service with intervals no longer than 12 months and an overhaul also known as a pressure test every five years.
